Polkura Winemaker Social

Join us Thurs. Sept. 12th from 6-8pm as Bitto Bistro welcomes the winemaker from Chilean producer, Polkura! They will be bringing four of their wines from the Colchagua Valley for you to purchase. Their Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Have an opportunity to taste the flight and geek out with the man who made it! And as always, live music on Thursdays, so there’s no excuse! Wines will be available for purchase in the shop as well. Save the date and see you there!

The passion for Syrah is the concept that best defines the nature of POLKURA. Their journey started in 1998, when winemaker Sven Bruchfeld along with his friend and university buddy Gonzalo Muñoz, were dreaming of future projects to do together. Gonzalo was studying in Spain and Sven was working during vintage in different wine regions around the world. They met at that time near Narbonne, in the south of France. A tasting of a Mediterranean style Syrah in one of the local wineries matched with a tasty lamb and mint sauce, defined this grape variety as the one to be the base for their future wine.

Once both were back in Chile, they set out to find the best place to develop a vineyard in order to maximize the grape quality and therefore the wine they had in mind.

This is how in 2002 they found the place they aimed. A neglected property in the Marchigüe area -the Western end of the Colchagua Valley- met the soil and climate requirements needed to fulfill their dream. So stop on in and taste a flight of dreams!

Orchard Wine Cellar Movers and Shakers This Week

  • Armas de Guerra Rose

    #1 Armas de Guerra Rose

My heavens! 50+ year old, organic Mencia vines from some of the highest vineyards in Bierzo. Subtle aromas of strawberry, pink grapefruit and white pepper play with clean river rock minerality touched by zesty key lime. Balance and finish are tied together with a vibrating acidity. Structured and executed like a world class ballerina doing flamenco. Sells out every year for good reason. Lighter than Provence, a different planet than White Zin. The only hard part is only opening one bottle at a time.
    (Holding the #1 spot)

  • Tintero Moscato

    #2 Tintero Moscato

Sori Gramella refers to the one of the only single vineyard Moscatos, and Marco is the only producer to bottle this striking limestone amphitheater commercially. Once the 30 year old vines give up their bounty, and the grapes are harvested and pressed, they are kept in stainless steel at a low temperature to prevent fermentation until an order is received in order to provide the freshest wine possible. (behind by 11 bottles)

  • Sweet Sunset Chocolate Merlot

    #3 Sweet Sunset Chocolate Merlot

First lets say that this is Not ChocoVine. This wine is actually made with eighty five percent Merlot and than has natural chocolate cream added to the mix. This is the wine for anyone looking for sweet red or the chocolate lover at home. Great gift for the holidays. (behind by 13 bottles)

  • Donausonne Blaufrankish

    #4 Donausonne Blaufrankish

If you can't pronounce this grape don't worry! Neither can anyone else. Sweet berry and red fruits in this light, pretty wine from Hungary. Rich flavor with no bitter tannins. A great sweeter red that is a big seller here. Many folks feel its the only red wine for them! (behind by 4 bottles)

Fun New Arrivals

  • Three Brooms

    Three Brooms

This single vineyard, certified sustainable sav blanc shows lovely white flower, chili pepper, and gooseberry on the nose with some sandy mineralogy. Very nice weight and balance showing passion fruit, ripe apple flavors. Such a pleasant surprise is the roundness, the acid is lively and energetic but not abrasive.

  • Farm to Table

    Farm to Table

A fun and lighter style from the cool mountains of Victoria. Aromas of fresh strawberry, cherry jam flirt with notes of forest floor a touch of peppery oak. Lively cola and raspberry flavors with vibrant acidity. Darn good value too!

  • Maimai Syrah

    Maimai Syrah

So pretty. Brings a clear nose of Gimblett Gravels terroir beneath lush soft blue and black fruit with lovely violet and lavender notes. Palate is clean, balanced and very approachable. Just a hint of the Northern Rhone's meatiness but mostly bright fruit and enough acidity to hold it in check. Maybe the best NZ Syrah out there??
