Chateau Redortier Beaumes de Venise - $17.00
(No rating yet)
Wine geeks know of Gigondas and Vacqueras that show off Grenache like no other. Bordering both is Beaumes de Venise which is known for fortified Muscat. On a steep hillside (at 1500 ft!) twin sisters Sabine and Isabelle make this earthy, spicy blend of Grenache, Syrah and Counoise. A gorgeous wine.
From the producer.
The sisters Sabine and Isabelle de Menthon beam when they talk about their 40+ acres of vines in the appellation of Beaumes-de-Venise. The vines are a great source of pride to the Menthon sisters and they hold them quite dear. Fifty-five year-old plantings of Grenache, Syrah, and Counoise from 1574 foot elevations are handpicked, sorted a minimum of two times and fermented from indigenous yeast. The wines are raised in cement tanks and finished in large oak foudres – thereby capturing the fragrant natural aromas of fig, sweet spice, plum and warm earth, all without manipulation or overextraction.
